What's New in Theaters This Weekend: February 15, 2013 Feb 15th 2013, 19:24 (Pacific Coast News | Fame FlyNet | Getty Images) This holiday weekend offers romance for the young (Safe Haven) and younger (Beautiful Creatures), but our box office expert Jeff Bock expects those films to split the dating crowd, allowing A Good Day to Die Hard to wreak havoc on the box office this weekend. "With female audiences split between...Beautiful Creatures and...Safe Haven, it looks like Bruce Willis will deliver the box office a valentine sealed with a kiss and a whole lotta bang for their buck–upwards of $40 million over the four-day President's Day weekend." A Good Day to Die Hard Directed by John Moore Starring: Bruce Willis, Jai Courtney, Mary Elizabeth Winstead Die Hard 5 continues the tradition of ruining the legacy of one of the best all-time action films. This time, Willis travels to Russia as John McClane to help his son, but things go awry when the younger McClane turns out to be a CIA agent in the middle of a nuclear weapons investigation. This one's directed by the guy who did Max Payne. Don't expect anything less...or more. See it? No. Box office projection: $40M Beautiful Creatures Directed by Richard LaGravenese Starring: Alice Englert, Alden Ehrenreich, Emma Thompson, Viola Davis, Emmy Rossum, Jeremy Irons Billed as a potential draw for the Twilight demographic due to the novel's built-in fanbase, Beautiful Creatures may not be the same kind of box office hit, but it has more going on upstairs. A mysterious new girl arrives in a small southern town and shares her family's dark and magical secrets with a local boy, uncovering more mysteries about themselves and the town. New faces Englert (Jane Campion's daughter) and Ehrenreich are two young actors to watch in 2013. See it? Sure. Box office projection: $17M Our Interview with Alice Englert and Alden Ehrenreich Safe Haven Directed by Lasse Hallstrom Starring: Julianne Hough, Josh Duhamel, Cobie Smulders, David Lyons The newest Lasse Hallstrom adaptation of a Nicholas Sparks novel, Safe Haven takes place in North Carolina, where romance blooms between a woman with a past and a handsome widower. This could've been a breakout role for Hough, but reviews are terrible and it looks like just another brainless romance packaged for Valentine's Day. See it? No. Box office projection: $20M Escape From Planet Earth 3D Directed by Cal Brunker Starring: Brendan Fraser, Sarah Jessica Parker, Jessica Alba, Rob Corddry An animated feature from The Weinstein Company should draw interest from industry experts, but Escape from Planet Earth doesn't have the originality to attract a big audience and looks to be a decidedly average kids flick. The story follows an astronaut who's caught in a trap when he responds to an alien distress signal. See it? No. Box office projection: $14M g A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III [Limited] Directed by Roman Coppola Starring: Charlie Sheen, Katheryn Winnick, Bill Murray, Jason Schwartzman, Aubrey Plaza Coppola's second directorial project marks the return of Charlie Sheen to feature work and he's surrounded by serious talent. Unfortunatelty, the actors and great style of the film are soundly wasted by a vapid script that can best be described as flaky. Sheen plays a womanizing graphic artist who turns to inner-reflection to deal with his latest break-up. Full Review. See it? No. Our Interview with Roman Coppola No [Limited] Directed by Pablo Larrain Starring: Gael Garcia Bernal, Alfredo Castro, Antonia Zegers Chile's winning submission for a Best Foreign Language Film nomination at this year's Oscars is a compelling true story of an ad executive who concocts a plan to unseat dictator Augusto Pinochet in 1988 Chile. Critics have hailed the film and Garcia Bernal's performance especially. See it? Yes. Like Someone in Love [Limited] Directed by Abbas Kiarostami Starring: Rin Takanashi, Tadashi Okumo, Ryo Kase, Denden The story of a prostitute in Tokyo who develops a relationship with a widower over the course of two days. Going out on a limb here, but this seems like a slightly different widower story than Safe Haven. Directed by Kiarostami, whose Certified Copy wowed critics in 2010. This one hasn't gotten the same overt love, but that's a hard film to live up to. See it? Yes.
